McCarthy bags dramatic '1-3' in Bishopscourt Cup
Fountain House finished second in the Ladies Cup here last year and it’s been my plan since to come back and win this race, as there is great history behind it. I’m a Galway-man originally but am based 25 minutes away, so this is brilliant to get over the line. This horse has brought so much joy to us as a family and we’re looking forward to the future with him. He rubbed one fence early on today but it was a blessing in disguise and Eyes Off Annie ran a blinder for Maxine (O’Sullivan). I had breezers selling yesterday and another couple next week: obviously that’s a big investment but I was never as nervous in my life as I was coming in here this morning. It’s a great thrill, a great sport and game. It’s just brilliant that it came off.

Its On The Line wins a third Punchestown Champion Hunters
he’s a great horse to bring here every year and to turn up at these big spring festivals with him is fair ammo to have: we owe him a lot. It was a truly run race and Derek said it burned off most going away from the stands and racing down the hill. It was worrying turning out of the back (straight) but by the time he got to the third-last, it was a matter of not getting there too soon. He hasn’t done much in front. It’s great he’s holding a bit back every time and we’ll just keep it for next year. Fingers crossed there is plenty left in him.

Right on cue for Dinoblue, as stablemate is retired
Dinoblue was very good today although I was hoping that Allegorie might get her own back after Cheltenham but it wasn’t going to be that way. Allegorie (a dual Grade 2 winner) is in foal to Jukebox Jury so she’s retired now. Dinoblue looks to be getting better and better and hopefully we have her for next season. I don’t see her going to stud for a while yet.

Mullins and delayed Meyler bag Punchestown success
This time two years ago, I rode a Grade 1 winner for Emmet (Mullins) at this festival, so can’t thank him enough and also my agent Gary Cribbin, who has done a fantastic job this season. I did fancy Sea Music although a few people thought today mightn’t be his day. He’d been going well, was unlucky the last day when he shot Donagh out of the saddle at the first fence, so we had him well warned today!. Fingers crossed all roads will lead to Galway but this is great to get: it’s a prestigious race and a great pot (€60,000) to win.

'Awesome' Final Demand wins by 16 lengths
it was an awesome performance over that trip, for that horse. Paul felt he didn’t go fast enough in Cheltenham and said to Caroline (Tilsdale, part-owner) ‘today I’m going to show him off’. I saw him jumping the first and second hurdles but wasn’t happy that he was jumping well until he jumped the third. He was then getting lengths at his hurdles and for a big chaser (type) to jump the way he did when it mattered, he was electric. I thought he was going to tire due to the pace but then he’d go down to the hurdle and just take a length out of a horse behind him. If you can jump fences like that he’s one to look forward to. he hasn’t schooled over fences at home but there will be time enough next Autumn. He won his point-to-point so he’s well able to jump. To have this horse with his size and scope, these horses don’t come along too often - if we can just keep him sound. He’s not a horse you’d want to stand on your foot!

Peerless in Punchestown - State Man eclipses Constitution Hill
it’s the performance we always thought he had in him. In fairness to Constitution Hill I think he didn’t turn up on the day: it’s very hard to travel from England after having two falls and things just didn’t go right for him. Our fella has run his true race and that’s been a constant thing in his racing life, he always turns up and runs his race. He’s just very genuine without ever being flashy. I think the cheekpieces have made him a bit flashier than he used to be. He’s a lazy horse and cheekpieces just help him. I think we were all waiting for this contest and it delivered. We’re just delighted.

Eliott secures second Punchestown success
obviously it was very disappointing with the Yellow Clay falling earlier today but that’s just the game we’re in and we bounced back with a winner there. Casheldale Lad is just a bit hard on himself, we thought he’d improve a bit on his last run and Jordan gave him a lovely ride. He got the fractions right in front and it worked great. I’d say he likes that ground, we might give him a month off and will probably keep him going.

Trebles by two Mullins trainers at Punchestown
Soldier In Milan is an exciting horse, I always thought a lot of him but he’s a big unit, so I was terrified of the ground. He’s an exciting horse for next season with a cut in the ground and should have a big future ahead of him. He was a 16-length point-to-point winner and was very impressive on the day. It’s great to get that out of the way for this season but I think there could be big things ahead of him next year. we had a treble in Cork in the past - including winning a graded chase with Cape Gentleman, but this is a great place to be advertising yourself.
