Use our guide to best odds guaranteed to learn how it works, which bookmakers offer it at what time and why it is a very worthwhile existing customer offer.
Best odds guaranteed, often referred to as BOG, is an existing customer promotion that applies to UK and Irish horse racing in the vast majority of UK and Irish bookmakers.
It means that if you place a bet on a horse after a certain time (usually 8am but a comprehensive list of the various times can be found below) and it drifts meaning that the starting price (SP) is bigger then you will be paid out at the bigger price.
If the price actually shortens then best odds guaranteed means that you will be paid out at the price you put the bet on at.
So, when best odds guaranteed is in play, you will be paid out at the biggest price whether that be the price you put the bet on at or the starting price.
Like in so many aspects, bet365 offer sets the gold standard with best odds guaranteed. It is available from 8am on the day of the race, the earliest time you will find of any on our list.

talkSPORT BET is run by the same company behind BetVictor, the BV Group, so it is no surprise to see that both best odds guaranteed offers have the same T&Cs.

While LiveScore Bet has a later BOG time of 10am, the betting site has a healthy maximum cap of £50,000 compared to others like Paddy Power which is set at £1,000.
T&Cs: Win and each-way cash bets placed from 10am (UK) on the day the UK or Irish horse race is due to be held. Max: £50k per Member per day. Exclusions, bet restrictions and T&Cs apply.
BetMGM's BOG offer is only valid from 11am, three hours after the leading best odds guarantted bookmakers which is an obvious weakness. However, some betting sites, like Betfred, do not offer it all so BetMGM is still worth checking out.
T&Cs: All UK and Irish Horse & Greyhound races. Available daily from 11:00 am onwards. BOG is offered to selected players only. You'll see it clearly marked on your betslip if you're eligible. Eligibility is at BetMGM's discretion.
It should be obvious that best odds guaranteed is a worthwhile promotion but the extent to which it can help punters is staggering.
One perfect recent example comes from Easter Monday earlier this year where one William Hill customer turned a 25p Lucky 15 into £21,383.73 with nearly £14,000 of that coming from best odds guaranteed as the four horses they had backed had all drifted.
William Hill spokesperson Lee Phelps commented: "We’ve been reminding customers to opt in to Best Odds Guaranteed and this is exactly why!
"[This story] just goes to show that Best Odds Guaranteed really is the punters’ friend!"
The lucky punters bet is detailed below:
25p Lucky 15 (Total stake: £3.75)
Total winnings (incl. 10% BOG bonus): £21,383.73
There has been a trend away from best odds guaranteed by some bookmakers while others have changed the terms and conditions.
Those include William Hill and Paddy Power who now do not have best odds guaranteed as standard, instead you have to engage with a specific button on the betting site to get BOG.
Betfair is one example of a bookmaker that has withdrawn best odds guaranteed, removing the feature towards the end of 2023.
As you can see from our rundown and table above, best odds guaranteed only applies to bets placed on the day of the horse race, whether that be from 8am, 9am, 10am or 11am.
Unfortunately this means that ante-post wagers do not qualify for best odds guaranteed.
A good alternative for bets for future events is non-runner money back. This means that if your horse does not end up running for whatever reason, you will receive your stake back as cash. Like with best odds guaranteed, free bets are unlikely to not be valid for non-runner money back.
Only the biggest horse racing events like the Cheltenham Festival or Grand National will have non-runner money back promotions and not every betting site will be running it.
Non runner money back markets will only go live in the months leading up to the big horse races so make sure you check the specific markets before making your wagers if you want to receive your bet back if your horse does not make the race.
It is important to note that best odds guaranteed may not apply to bets that you place with bet credits or free bets.
This will differ from bookmaker to bookmaker so ensure that you check the terms and conditions.
Betfred and BoyleSports is one example of a bookmaker that will not apply best odds guaranteed on wagers placed with free bets.
As a seasoned sports bettor for over a decade, I was able to combine my passion with my job over two years ago, writing for a leading UK newspaper about all things betting, including horse racing promotions like best odds guaranteed.
I joined irishracing.com at the end of March 2025, to bring this experience and my background in sports journalism to the site's betting content, including the latest on free bets, new customer offers, bonuses and this page on best odds guaranteed times.
BOG means that if you place a bet on a horse at a certain time detailed in the terms and conditions and the odds improve and the starting price of the horse is bigger, you will be paid out at the best price. Conversely, it also means if the starting price is smaller, you will be paid out at the price you put the bet on so you do not miss out on the best price.
The likes of bet365, BoyleSports, Paddy Power, Betfred, Ladbrokes, Coral and Unibet offer best odds guaranteed. All have different terms and conditions which can limit the impact of the offer and we have detailed that in this article.
bet365 offers BOG from 8am on the day of the race of UK and Irish races but it does not apply to bets placed with free bets.
William Hill do best odds guaranteed on UK and Irish races but bettors must opt-in to receive the promotion rather than it being applied as standard as is the case with other betting sites.
