Saturday sees day one of the Dublin Racing Festival at Leopardstown where four Grade 1s take place.

The highlight of the day is without a doubt the Irish Gold Cup (3.30) where Galopin Des Champs bids to win it for the fourth occasion. We’ve picked out a Lucky15 for the card in Ireland.

1.15 Leopardstown - DOCTOR STEINBERG

DOCTOR STEINBERG looks a serious contender here for Willie Mullins, who has won four of the last five renewals of this Grade 1 Nathaniel Lacy & Partners Solicitors Novice Hurdle. The six-year-old has shown a high level of ability since switching to hurdles, winning both starts this season with plenty in hand.

He impressed when landing a maiden hurdle at Galway before stepping up markedly in grade to take a Navan Grade 2, where he travelled powerfully and asserted late on testing ground..Still relatively lightly-raced, he looks capable of further improvement and looks the one to beat here for the champion trainer.

2.15 Leopardstown - D ART D ART

With testing conditions expected, it looks set to be a real slog at Leopardstown, and that could play firmly to the strengths of D ART D ART. The seven-year-old has shown a clear liking for soft and heavy ground throughout his career, with his best performances coming when conditions are demanding.

He landed a competitive handicap hurdle at Punchestown on yielding ground in October and has since backed that up with a series of solid efforts in stronger company, including a narrow second at Carlisle on soft and a creditable run in a deep Cheltenham handicap.

Proven stamina, likes it in mud, and previous big-field experience make him well suited to a race of this nature, and he looks well equipped to cope with another searching test.

3:30 Leopardstown- GALOPIN DES CHAMPS

GALOPIN DES CHAMPS remains the benchmark staying chaser and showed once again in the Savills Chase that he retains all his ability. Although only third on the day, he travelled powerfully throughout, tanking along for much of the race before just flattening out late on. Had he been race-fit he would have likely gone on to win that day

He’s already a three-time winner of this contest and has an exceptional record at Leopardstown, particularly over this trip, where his relentless galloping style is ideally suited. With that outing under his belt, it would be no surprise to see him return to his very best and firmly reassert his dominance at the top level.

4:40 Leopardstown - CHARISMATIC KID

CHARISMATIC KID made an impression when winning on his bumper debut at Navan, showing a good attitude and plenty of ability. He beat a Gigginstown-owned runner into fourth on that occasion, and the strength of that performance was underlined when those connections moved quickly to purchase him soon after.

Now in the care of Gordon Elliott, he looks an exciting recruit to the yard. The jockey who was on him on debut was notably complimentary afterwards, noting that he's as good a horse he’s sat on for a long time. With that experience under his belt and now representing powerful owners, he appears a horse with a bright future and one to keep firmly onside going forward.
