Run For Cover was given an enterprising ride by Ricky Doyle and it reaped dividends in Division 2 of the William Hill Each Way Extra Challenge Series Handicap Hurdle in Fairthouse.

Run For Cover made all and moved clear of the big field before the third flight.

The pursuers must have thought they were going to reel her in when her lead was markedly reduced three out. Doyle, though, had others ideas as he kicked his mount on rounding the home turn and it was only Sean Mc who was in with a shot of catching her.

Sean Mc kept plugging away, but Run For Cover readily ran on along the run-in to beat him by five and a-half lengths at 10/1. The runner-up was a well supported 3/1 favourite. My Good Pal (7/2) and Deanery Charlie (28/1) finished adrift in third and fourth respectively.

Martin Brassil said: “We said we’d give up fighting with her because she’s just very free in her races and we always had the hood on her.

“You’d have to drop her completely out and see if she could actually finish the race. We said we’d try something different.

“If she was allowed to go in front like that, there was a chance she would stay going because she wasn’t getting home fighting her and she was kind of resenting it.

“She was lovely and sweet, and she jumps really quick and well.

“She’s reasonably well handicapped and we’ll see if we can find another one like that.

"She handles the ground and goes two-and-a-half miles.”
