John Ryan and Michael Kenneally teamed up for another winner at Clonmel today when Finnicky Filly landed the William Hill Challenge Series Handicap Hurdle.

The Sageburg mare was produced to challenge two from home in the two-miler and got the better of Wild Wild Wind from the last to record a length-and-a-half success.

It was a first career win for Finnicky Filly who had been fourth here on her last two visits.

"She’s a cracking filly who was bred by one of my owners Tommy James and while I previously leased her to a group of lads who then got tired of her, I wouldn't blame them,” said Ryan.

“I had to take her back myself and I'm delighted she has won as she is from a great family and her half-brother Piccolo Player won in Limerick recently for me, and he is a very good horse.

"It is a proper family although I'm not a fan of Sageburg (her sire). She is a cracking little mare so will make a broodmare for somebody.

"She is difficult to train and to mind but we have great patience, that's one thing I have with horses and I give them every chance.

“If this mare had been in another yard, she'd have been scrapped long ago. She will be way better over fences."

Ryan and Kenneally had also won a nice pot with Drumgill at Fairyhouse on Saturday.
