The Sam Curling trained debutant Midnight Jet made a winning start to his career when belying his inexperience to win the concluding Killarney Racegoers (Pro/Am) INH Flat Race.

Sent off 7/2, Derek O'Connor went sixth on the Maxios gelding has the field turned into the home straight.

Leaders Coolnav and Grey Jude were headed by joint-favourite Galileo Sand over two-furlongs out. However, that move was quickly covered by O'Connor, who moved alongside on Midnight Jet.

Both horses settled down to battle it out from over a furlong out. Little separated the pair until the last 150 yards when Midnight Jet got the better of the argument before stretching on to win by one-and-three-quarter lengths.

Sam Curling said: "His dam won this bumper (in 2015) and Marine Nationale, who is his uncle, also won a bumper here.

"He is a very nice horse and it is his first time on grass. The band playing near the parade ring got him revved beforehand but he is a very talented horse and will be sold now I'd say.

"We've liked everything he has done and his dam was a good mare, but got hurt. It is a great family."
