Eoin was very good on him and he is great value for his 5lb claim. It is a fantastic race to win and what a difference a day can make!. You couldn't have said he was beaten when falling at the second-last at Cheltenham last March and he was a maiden coming here, so it was a nice way to break his maiden tag. The race is a big part of the calendar with a huge history and while I had finished second in this race last year, it is great to have your name on the cup. It is the first time he has got his ground since he won a Grade 2 hurdle race at Haydock. He again qualifies for the National Hunt Chase so will go straight there, despite having a penalty for winning this. If he doesn't do anything else, he has been fantastic for us and we have been on the cold list for a while so this is well appreciated. Evidence was heard from the starter and a collection of senior riders. The IHRB Starter, Mr J. R. Banahan stated that the field were coming slightly too quickly and he was waiting for them to straighten up on the first approach and he could not let them off. He added that they then split after the second false start where some of the riders went back to the fence before the start while the others only retreating back to the marker poles. Having viewed the recording of the starts and considered the evidence, the Raceday Stewards took no further action other than to refer the set up of the start for future Thyestes Chases to a Senior Racing Official for consideration.
An extended handicap steeplechase for five years old and upwards that have run at least four times in steeplechases up to and including 11th January 2026 Penalties - Winner of a steeplechase or steeplechases after calculation of the handicap shall carry any penalty or penalties which may be allotted by the Handicapper.
